About Me

Experience

I have been working within the mental health field for over 15 years. I have worked in the statutory, private and voluntary sectors with clients from different cultural, religious and economic backgrounds.

My clinical experience has involved working in primary and secondary care settings. I have provided therapy in GP surgeries for NHS patients as well as working in Psychiatric Hospitals such us the Priory or the Maudsley Hospital supporting more vulnerable and complex clients.

I have provided individual therapy, and group therapy and my clients have been adults, families and children presenting with a range of difficulties.

The clients I have seen over this period include those experiencing difficulties with depression, anxiety, stress, phobias, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem as well as those going through life adjudgments such as relationship breakup, divorce, adjusting to motherhood, bereavement or loss.

In previous jobs, I have facilitated anxiety and depression groups, developed resilience training for NHS health care professionals and provided supervision and mentoring to junior clinicians.

I have also been involved in different NHS based health psychology research projects and volunteered for an independent charity.

In my previous job at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust and my current role at The Royal Marsden Hospital Chelsea, I provide CBT psychotherapy and counselling to hospital staff. I have particular expertise in managing stress at work, overcoming needle phobia or dealing with traumatic events.

Since becoming a mum in 2015, I have been interested in Perinatal Psychology which involves supporting mothers during pregnancy, the postpartum period, and the first years of children’s lives.

A bit more about me…

Originally from Spain, I worked in business for some years before moving to London in 2003 and starting a career in Psychology.

I am married, and we have a little boy. In my spare time, I love exploring nature, exercising, travelling around the world and learning from different cultures.

Receiving therapy myself at a difficult moment of my life was a life-changing experience for me and resulted in a complete change of direction, both in my career and my life.

Why CBT accreditation matters

Although many Psychologist and Psychotherapist receive some CBT training, accredited therapists by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) need to meet strict criteria to become CBT accredited practitioners. These include being a member of a specified core profession, following training standards, having a sustained commitment to the theory and practice of cognitive and behavioural therapies and maintaining appropriate supervision arrangements. The BABCP ensures that all accredited CBT Therapists have achieved a high level of competence in cognitive and behavioural methods, which has also been independently verified.
